I finished reading the book not 12 hours before I saw the movie, so it was still fresh. That being said, the movie tries too hard to cram all the info from the book into a 113-minute flick. What we get are numerous, long bouts of exposition that I could only imagine would confuse kids into a stupor; there's not much in the way of humour or witty dialogue either. Overall, a poorly-written script. But the visuals are breathtaking and since I had read the book, I enjoyed seeing it come to life. I would hesitate to recommend it to anyone with young kids, simply because they'd probably get bored before the good stuff starts.
