It took me one full hour to get into this movie enough to enjoy it. It's all about characters, and unfortunately it takes half the movie to be able to distinguish one from the next, as the layout of the ship and the close proximity of all the shipmates makes it hard to tell them apart. This is not Pirates of the Caribbean, folks; this is almost an old-fashioned war drama, where action takes a backseat to character development and story-telling. I might compare it to The Thin Red Line, except I enjoyed this much more. Russell Crowe does a fine job here, as does the rest of the cast. Warning: it's a little hard to sit through, but once you get settled and start to look past the slow pace and ponderous dialogues, you just may find this is a terrific film. I thought it was okay.
