Never read the book, but the movie was dang good entertainment. The first half of the film was better than the latter half, as some of the plots for revenge didn't quite jive. And, for some reason, that dude who played Dantes' buddy in the last half, whose name I don't know, but who everyone will recognize immediately from a ton of other movies, just looked really out of place wearing circa-1800 era clothing. He's pretty much type-casted as an LA gang member. Who cares! Monte Cristo was good stuff.
