James Cameron flips the bird to everyone from Michael Bay to Peter Jackson to George Lucas with this absolutely mind-blowing visual feast. It is as far above anything you've ever seen as an X-Box 360 is to a Sega Genesis. To not see this in theatres is to rob yourself of a truly beautiful experience. That being said, were the effects not as unbelievable as they are, the movie would be a pretty standard, although nifty, sci-fi action flick. The story is fairly simplistic and predictable, the characters very broadly drawn and the dialog less than stellar. BUT, because the effects are so immersive, so breathtaking to behold, it elevates the film to the level of excellence. Do not judge the movie on its dialog and plot, judge it on its visual splendor. Cameron is the king of action directors, without question, and his comeback was worth the wait. Oh, and the music sucks.
