One thing stops this movie from getting the 10 it would otherwise deserve: the last half hour or so. The first two hours are as close to movie perfection as can be, and I was prepared to shove The Dark Knight into my top five flicks of all time. Alas, the movie devolves into a rather bland comic-booky final act that left me yawning and, at the same time, questioning the motives of the characters and filmmakers alike, with cliche moralizing that belongs more in a Spiderman CGI-filled movie than the more realistic world of Chris Nolan's Gotham City. Batman's gadgetry gets a little too far-fetched and kind of spoils it a bit. BUT, Heath Ledger gives a helluva performance, outshining Jack Nicholson's Joker by a mile. Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent is fantastic as well, and it's nice to see Gary Oldman get a ton more screen time this time around. Overall, a terrific movie, but not the perfect little gem everyone's raving about.
