Really quite a delight. Jim Carrey is (thankfully) restrained as Horton and nicely balanced by Jim Carell as the Mayor of Whoville 'with 96 daughters and one son'. Any parent of more than one will chuckle at the scene where one tyke asks for a drink of water after lights out then 95 others chime in for water too. The film has several engaging moments like this for Mom and Dad. True to Theodore Geisel, the narrator carries the poetic rhythm and manages to balance Carrey's manic tendency with a soft edged whimsy. My only qualm was 'Vlad' the villain (not the cookie bunny) I was seated near some tykes and they were a bit too scared by the sadistic darkness of the character. Carol Burnett did well as the domineering, manipulative Kangaroo. All in all, it was a solid effort - great to hear a theatre full of kids guffaw - but I must admit that I pine for the days of hand drawn cells. CGI is amazingly developed, but it just doesn't seem natural to me.
