Trying to make a picture out of GarcĂa Marquez's books has always been the dream of many directors who seem to forget that Gabo writes literature in its most pure sense. However, this time the director took the story and worked freely around it, respecting the literary style of the book. That is a plus. The make up is lousy and breaks the illusion of the characters aging. All together, I think the picture is the best that could be done with one of the poorest novels of this magnificent writer. Why not choosing one of his great works?
