I admit that I enjoyed this reinvention of the original classic "Halloween", and all thanks to Rob Zombie for scaring the hell out of me, and introducing a very unique, frightening Michael Myers. As a fan of the series and of horror in general, I sat in anticipation before the film started. A director like Zombie, brings a style to his movies like nobody else can do. Perfection is how I would describe it. He gives a serrated edge to the world of Michael Meyers. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that this film stayed true to the original, while carving out a brand new level of Halloween horror. I really like how the story takes more of an inside look into Michael's childhood of a terrible family life, who is teased and bullied at school, and transforms into a devil child, who later grows up to become a monster. However, this is not your ordinary slasher flick. The one thing that anyone should know going into see this film is that it's a much more brutal version of "Halloween" and I would even consider this to be rated R and not rated AA. The violence is five times greater than that of the original classic. I had to look away at one point, as the killing scenes were not easy to watch. Michael is eliminating people at random, and he seems to enjoy stretching it out as much as possible. As far as the graphic imagery goes, it's quite intense, and may be very disturbing to some. Also, it was nice that they decided to use John Carpenter's theme music in Zombie's movie to capture that familiar mood of creepiness. It gets me everytime... sends chills down my spine, but I love it for what it is. However I don't think I can ever compare this reinvention with the original, as it has it's own individuality. I for one have always loved John Carpenters "Halloween", but I must give Mr. Zombie full credit for doing this film and for bringing the legend of Michael Myers to life. So if you think your heart can withstand this movie, then don't miss it whatever you do. Just sit back, hold on, and enjoy the ride.
