The three leads in Catch a Fire are all extraordinary. Derek Luke is turning out to be one of the finest actors of his generation. He gives another powerhouse performance, deftly revealing the various sides of his complex character. His accent was so convincing, I forgot it wasn't his own. Bonnie Henna is both strong and heart-wrenching. Tim Robbins seems to love playing villainous parts and he's so good at it. Maybe it's a vent for someone with such an advanced social conscience in real-life. He gives another masterful performance as the soft-spoken, quietly menacing investigator during South Africa's apartheid era. Like Luke, his accent is flawless. Robbins' research into his character's perspective pays off, as he imbues him with a humanity and vulnerability that allows us to see him ultimately as a tragic figure. The film itself keeps up the action and suspense while never losing sight of its political heart. While sometimes grueling and horrifying, it is in the end, energizingly hopeful and inspiring..
