User's review

Jesus H. Christ, I wrote this huge review and then I mashed some combination of keys on my keyboard that made me lose the whole thing. Grrr. Anyway, let's try again. 5-stars from this critic who has a HUGE soft spot for Pixar movies. They pull it off once again it what may be, in my view, the most stunningly animated one of all. The various shots of Paris are dazzling. What I really liked about Ratatouille that sets it apart is that it isn't predictable which is the polar opposite of the connect-the-dot screenplays I've been subjected to in the last few months. It's also a terrific movie to bring kids with you, although some think the story isn't engaging enough for a kid because it REALLY gets into the art of cuisine to some pretty deep details. In fact, this is the first animated movie by Pixar which I think is more for adults but fun for kids as well (the opposite of what you always hear) Anyway, it's not a problem for me cuz I don't have any kids and I couldn't bring one even if I wanted to. Let's just say when you look like me, it's hard to get a table for one at a Chuck E. Cheese... Especially when I bring my sketch pad. SKG Dreamworks is such a distant silver medal to Pixar, it's not even funny. Shrek 3 was such a disaster and has to resort to the most pedestrian of cute animal/pop culture jokes and wisecracks. Whereas Ratatouille can let the animation do most of the work for it. Plus, the characters are really well-rounded and developed. And best of all... NO RANDY NEWMAN! I won't ever have a friend like him.
10/10
