Wow, it turns out Dave Chappelle isnt so funny without his Chappelle show writers. Im not a big fan of hip hop either so that was another miss for me.

This movie was great. All the bad reviews come from those who have nothing to do with conscious Black culture.

Omg... this movie is the worst ever... the story sux... actually... there is no story at all. I have no idea what the heck is this movie for. The camera is like shaking all the time which makes me SO dizzy. This movie is such a waste of time and money. My friends and I watched this movie and we all left during the movie. Cuz it sucked SO bad.

Positive, positive, positive."Its real hip hop" - Dead Prez. And the humour is there also, if you let it in. No "Rick James" type skits - just good subtle humour.

I thought this movie wouldn't be as slow as it was, it deffinately shouldn't have been playing in theaters, yes on being a tv show, but not a movie, luckily I got a ticket back after an hours waste of my time.

Not my type of music, not my type of language; filled with arrogance, hostility and hypocracy. Cult associates will rate this movie a '10'. Democracy Forever!!

This movie was a masterpiece indeed when it comes to hiphop documentaries. There have been quite a few documentaries before (eg. Backstage) but the musical lineup for this concert that was held was absolutely amazing. Once again, don't go see this movie for the comical relief of it (even though a lot of parts were funny), but DO go see this movie if you are a fan of hiphop (NOT Gangsta Rap) and soul... you will leave the theatre with a good vibe!

If you want to see a 2 hour Chapelle show episode don't go see this movie. If you want to see some amazing hip-hop acts performing live, a bunch of people just enjoying life, and chapelle in the middle having fun with the whole thing go see this movie. I was pissed of before getting to the movie theater and left with a big smile on my face.

You gotta dig the music and culture to appreciate this movie, but if you do then this is pinicale. All the music and comedy are on point. This is a testement to Dave chappelles belief in himself, his friends, his people and generally anyone with a sence of humour and soul.

The Biggie Smalls joke was HILARIOUS!!! Dave Chappelle's Block Party: Good if you like rap, not so good if you don't like it. The 'Hip Hop' performance by Dead Prez was AWESOME, the Fugees were there too! Dave Chappelle's jokes were the funniest!

Dave Chappelle's Block Party I was surprised was a documentary. I didn't really know what to expect, but it was good. Wicked rap and hip hop music, laughs, and a great idea brought up by Dave Chappelle. It's a tale about the fab party he threw, FREE, for anyone and everyone, in the heart of Brooklyn NY. Bringing together the old and young. With apperiences from Mos Def, The Fugees, and Erykah Badu.

I expected more and that is probably where I went wrong with this movie. It's not a movie at all. It's not even a funny documentary. It's just a concert filmed in the rain. I'm being very general here but it's not worth even renting. It's only worth watching if you get to see it for free on television. Don't waste your time.

This is excellent documentary with a combination of comedy and really good music with a cause! I don't know any comedian who had put this kind of effort to put out all this remarkable talents on the spotlight! If you not a fan of Hip Hop by watching this u can become one or at least appreciate it!

Ok, I am a fan of Dave Chappelle show and his stand up and if you are too I suggest you dont go see this movie all the jokes are in the previews. I suggest renting his show's seasons at blockbuster.

Two words: classic movie. I loved every single minute of it. Im a huge hip hop fan and you to truly appreciate this movie, you'd have to be one too. And im not talking bout liking mos def or Talib... im saying you got to know who Dead Prez is, you got to have some idea of who Kool g rap is and who big Daddy Kane is. Im definitely going to get this as soon as it comes out on dvd. Most, if not all, of the performances brought back a lot of memories of times id jam to those joints on my discman on the commute to school. Dope ish.

Great! Only thing is some artist were missing. A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Pharaoh Monch, more Kanye West and John Legend. Perhaps they could be in the sequel. Ya basta!

This movie was a major waste of time, it took me all of 10 minutes to figure out this was going to be a long night! I have to admit the music was pretty good even though im not a fan of Hip Hop but who really cares. I suggest you DON'T go watch this movie... it is Not Funny, Completely Pointless, Extremely Long & Painfully Boring... Get the point!

Well from the ratings I have read so far it seems as though people still go see movies without having a single clue about them... Thats like rating a comedy a 4 because it didnt have gore in it. For the rest of the people who had actually heard Chapelle talk about what the movie was about or had seen the trailers online or on TV, this movie is great for what it is: a behind the scenes look at Chapelle organising a show with his favorite artists. It's a documentary movie about a Hip-Hop concert, one that I desperately wish I had attended. ALL PERFORMANCES WERE GREAT. (to the comment of someone earlier saying that some of the performances sucked. ) I knew the concert featured the come back of the Fugee's and marked the first time they were on stage together for quite some years, but it was truly great to see Lauryn get on stage and perform following Clef. It really would have been a blessing to witness that. If you arent into Hip-Hop, dont bother to check for this movie, it simply wasnt made for you, if you are, go check out the movie, it's the second best thing you could after missing the show.

Anyone who doesn't like this movie is just not a fan of hip hop because this is essentially who it's aimed at. And when I say Hiphop, I would like for all of the G-Unit heads out there to calm down, you're not who I was refering to right now. Dave orchastrates for about two hours a return to music that is real and unsuperficial. You will be hard pressed to find a single person in that movie rocking a massive chain or driving around on spinners and such non-sense. Recommended for all true Dave Chappelle and Good Hip hop fans.

Dave Chappelle's Block Party was probably the best hip-hop documentary I've ever seen. The effortless blend of comedy and concert performances, a testament mainly to Gondry's creative directing style (his video background is very apparent here), allows for a very revealing look at the overall powerful force that is hip-hop in contemporary pop culture. Regardless of whether or not you're a true hip-hop fan, or even a Dave Chappelle fan (bonus if you're both! ), what you should have taken away from this film is that comedy and hip-hop do truely transcend each others stereotypical, media-influenced boundaries, and have been doing so for years. If you're a fan of either genre, this movie is a veritable treat which fulfills two seemingly incompatible expressions at the same time: the need to laugh and the need to move. I believe, it was the great philosopher Gene Siskel who said "run, don't walk... to see this movie.".

Terrible. I am a huge Chappelle fan, got both his seasons on DVD, but a buddy and I both couldnt understand why we didnt walk out an hour in to it. All this is, is a concert on tape, with random snippets of Dave saying hit or miss, kind of funny things. [...] Its just hip-hop performances on a street in Brooklyn. It's not great at all, boring, Chappelle himself is in it for like 25 minutes of the 105 minute, and if you pay attention to the live audience, they arent even really in to it cuz its raining and some of the performances suck. Dont see it, and dont rent it. Watching it pretty much ruined my night.

I love Dave Chappelle. I love Erykah Badu, Mos Def and the Fugees. I am fan of real hip-hop and have every Chappelle show upped on my computer. But I walked out of the theatre feeling like I just had the worst sex of my life.

Not at all what was expected of this movie! Was expecting a blend of Chapelle's stand-up and sketch comedy but was treated to a great hip-hop concert movie with some snipets of comic relief from the man. If hip-hop is your thing (appearances by Mos Def, Common, Fugees, etc. ) see this movie. Otherwise, rent Chapelle Show on DVD!

This documentary is extremely entertaining, and very different from the pack of tosh out there in the film industry at the moment. It is funny, insightful, and spiritually uplifting. The music performance's are not all spectacular, and there are some political messages perhaps gone astray, but the overall message is great. Quality entertainment.
