Ok its simple, if u rate this movie low u dont get it and dont understand Douglas Adams humor. Other wise this movie was amazing, and hallarious. Not quit better than the book but still just as good.

Probably, they had to add a plot-line to it for everyone else who didn't read the books. If they stuck with what the books were, it would have been much better - the books being about nothingness.

A little to off the wall at times starts off good, with good ideas that get you interested but then it starts to go down hill, it is worth watching for the manic depressed robot, a great character!!

I was hoping for a funnier movie but instead got something truly bizarre, then again, when you're tired enough, you'll laugh at anything... alot of silly moments in this one... worth renting.

Most people think this is not as great as the book and thats why they rate it very low me personally I havent read the book but I plan to. When I was in the movie I was thinkin that this movie was quite odd but then I decided that it wasnt anything to do with star wars as I thought it would have been I not going to tell you readers what is in the movie because I dont want to spoil itdont not go see it because youve read the book and think its going to bad think of it as a whole different movie so in this way you may be able to appreciate it moore the reason why im explaining it to you like this is because all my friends read the book and then went to see the movie and hated it because they read the book so please go see it even if you have or havent read the book and enjoy it as much as you can because it is a really odd movie [...]

I watched this movie with great expectation. However, I was disappointed by the annoying dialogues and storyline. It seems like something from Monty Pythons. I suppose if you like British commedy, you will enjoy this film.

Captured the atmosphere of Mr. Adams' brilliant writing beautifully. I was very hesitant to see the screen adaptation of one of my favourite books, and was very happily surprised. Excellent casting.

What a far streatch of a persons idiotic mind and imagination. Holy crap. Why would someone even make a movie like this? WHY? It didn't make any sense. I mean, I read the books but this is was too stupid. The most memorible parts of the movie were basically having the theater to myself and my sister, eating popcorn and candy, and finally leaving. I was going to leave earlier but hey, I wasted 9 bucks to see a movie and I was going to finish it. But listen... you people out there can make a difference by NOT seeing this film.

People who haven't read the books might have some trouble with the delicate humour, but overall this is an incredible adaptation. Somebody above said that it didn't follow the storyline, but I beg to differ. Very close to the original (as movie adaptations go) and a very satisfying and talented cast!!!

I was very disappointed with this film adaptation. A story can be smart without being boring. This movie may appear stupid, but it's actually very smart but also unfortunately rather boring. Visit the official website for this movie - it's actually more entertaining than the movie itself.

Awesome movie. British comedy so not for everyone. You have to see this movie multiple times to get everything. Extremely clever and a great adaptation to a very hard series of books.

This movie was a dissapointment. Some interesting concepts were raised. I liked the beurocratic behemoths, and their representations of beurocracy. Otherwise there is a lot of fantasy, that tends to be mostly meaningless.

This adaptation of Douglas Adam's cult classic is done fairly well, although they have taken some creative liberties and changes the story line somewhat. It is, nevertheless, very good. I hope they make the rest of the series as well.

It was the most stupidest movie I ever saw! Like come on, if u wanna waste your money then go to this movie, I advise you not to go to it. The mock everything from star trek and star wars to religion, and come on Dolphins flying into outerspace at the beginning of the movie? This is so stupid.

I thought that the movie was pretty good. There were some parts in the movie that were hard to follow and pretty cheesy. But overall it was pretty good. The big problem was that the end was too abrupt and left you feeling that there should be more to it. Don't bother paying $10 to see it in the theaters. But you should rent it when it comes out. (The books were so much better! )

I had never previously read the series of books and so did not know what to expect. I found the movie quite comical but quickly lost interest. I think it is because the director tried to cram a series of books into a 2 hour movie.

Super funny, satirical. You have to interpret the jokes, know what they are making fun of, and draw parallelism to targets in society today.

I enjoyed this movie but give it a 7 (good movie -worth seeing)for a few reasons. I have read the five novels in the trilogy and am currently re-reading them since I got my monkey digits on "The ultimate Hitchhikers guide" (complete and unabridged) with a bonus story "Young Zaphod plays it safe". I recognized much in the movie and enjoyed many parts but felt that they pulled too much of the film from all five novels. I wanted to see the first novel only, which would have made a fine film, and have that end off with Zaphod's famous line "We'll take a quick bite at the Restaurant at the end of the Universe". This would have left the door open to future films and the potential to develop the concept further. There is so much that is profound in the series, touching on the meaning of life, the Universe and everything. Those of you who have read the novels know that Douglas Adams introduced concepts that blow the mind. One last thing, Zaphod had two heads side by side in the novels. In these days where we can make a dog appear to fly an F-16 fighter jet, I can't understand the approach the filmakers took to Zaphod' s heads.

Great fun, a hoot! For those of us that have read the books and for those others that like dry british humour and also for those who can suspend disbelief for a bit, it is a great movie. If you are looking for a semblance of deep philosophical hoohaw, go rent "The Hours", you won't like this one.

I've never read the books, never seen the shows, but I gotta give credit to that depressive robot. I wish they made a robot like that so that when I have a bad day, I know someone is having it worst. I would recomande to see it on DVD, it's nothing really special, but it's a fun movie to watch. It has solid dialogue and makes us think about life, again ;)

This is the worst English movie I had even seen. I haven't read the book or listened to the radio show, so I couldn't follow the flow of the movie. I think the funniest part of the movie is the end of it: it shows how the earth is created. Overall, I won't recommend this movie to any of my friends..

I would not say it was a good comedy, it had a few moments but me and my friends were literlally asleep I mean it was really boring. The robot was good though I have to admit they did a good job on him but definatley not worth paying 10 dollars to see it.

This is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Not worth watching even if someone has "lent" you a copy. Wasn't worth waking up my brother who fell asleep 20 minutes in. He got better value sleeping thru most of it then I did suffering thru every painful minute. An insult to the intelligence of even the simplest human being.

I was perplexed about this movie right off the bat, not knowing anything about the story or book. The singing dolphins at the beginning put me in a state of confusion all the way through, but I love British humour. The sighing spaceship doors were the best part of this movie. I might see it again just for that, not in the theatre of course, and perhaps at 3am, when nearly everything is extremely funny.

A lot of people are complaining here that the movie didn't live up to the book. Well, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy didn't start off as a book, it started off as a radio show. The movie is very close to the radio show, even using the same narrator, and even the same song, and Alan Rickman sounds almost identical to Marvin the Paranoid Android in the radio series. Let us not forget as well that the screenplay for this movie was written by the late Douglas Adams, who unfortunately did not live long enough to see his book turned into a movie (something he's always wanted) All in all, this movie was a very accurate representation of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Well... HHGTTG is not everyones cup of tea. I am a solid fan from waaay back. I have read the complete and unabridged version of all the books, listened to two different radio plays of it, watched the original TV series, and I wasn't over joyed nor disappointed with the movie. It was what it had to be. Americanised and dumbed down a bit for a N. A. mainstream audience. But remember every incarnation of HHGTTG is always a little bit different. There were a few re-writes of the basic plotline but overall I thought they worked. Still not sure why they went to all of the bother with Hamma Kavula. But as far as I know, Douglas signed off on the movie well before his death. It was his baby, so he can do with it what he likes. I still giggle everytime I think about the Vogon guards running from Ford on Earth II yelling, "Look out he's got a towel! " Or when they come running up to the little picket fence door with the closed latch and exclaim, "Oh no he's barred the way, we need to go round! " It was alright. But if you are a true Zarkin Frood... you'll just roll with it baby! Heck, I'd go see it again just to hear the original banjo opening again! I just hope they can make enough cash for a sequal!

This is the kind of movie that you know can be great and you just can't wait to see it but realize right at the beginning that there's something wrong. After a half hour you realize that your watching a bad 'B' movie. Dry and boring. The story line is disjointed and difficult to follow. The characters are worse. They make the movie boring. You'll ask yourself, "What is the point of this movie." "What is the point of that 'R2D2' type character with the big head? " If I'd rented this film on video I would have turned it off eventually and gone to bed, no matter the time of day. Hint... don't even bother to rent it.

I saw it last week with my friend and I thought by the preview that it was going to be a great movie but the beginning was only good and then the rest just sucked very much, so much that I would recommend all to never go see that movie full of non-sense and childish scenarios. It sucked.
