This is the movie rendition of George Orwell's book 1984. It is not 100% to the letter adaption, but it gets across the same message you get from the book. Most people find this movie frightening because of the implications for our future and how parts of his writing have come true today, which is not to say that all his predictions will come true. Think of this movie as one of the 'worst case scenario' variety of movies. See Children of Men for another worst case scenario movie. Interested in having discussions after watching? A great movie to see as part of a book club.
