Kristin Scott Thomas' performance is riveting as Juliette who faces the world after 15 years imprisonment. Nuanced, subtle, winsome, she is a spectral figure proceeding just before the shadow of grief that clings to her. The price she pays for her crime in ostracism is a second sentence she bears with dignity. The interplay with her sister Lea develops a natural ease and supportiveness as Juliette is gradually accepted into the community of family and friends. As the moral complexity of her life unfolds one is left with a sense of tragic awe. A great performance, worthy of a Cesar and an Oscar. Thomas is beguiling, strangely seductive, without remorse for her crime; she is wounded by the moral ambiguity of her act as angel of death.
