User's review

Just a delightful, quirky romcom with a wonderful take on the afterlife. Ricky Gervais' humour is too subtle for a good guffaw but the writing is so crisp and his ratatat timing with Greg Kinnear so precise, that the chuckles build regularly to a crescendo. Tea Leoni is also cut from a bizarre cloth but manages to capture our attention in scenes that touch on despair and grieving in a very convincing way. She doesn't overplay her hand and the darker moments are a good foil to the comic. The moralizing is obvious but one forgives it, thanks to the originality of the script and the unexpected plot twists. Really a suprising film for its depth and beautifully crafted message. It was also a welcome twist to see Greg Kinnear cast against his usual nice-guy-in-after-shave-commercial persona. Hope there is a sequel.
