This is quite possibly the scariest movie I've seen in a decade. While it's not your typical horror movie with blood and gore, ax wielding madmen, or monsters, it has a profound effect on you psychologically. The ideal audience for this film are those with an open mind to the unknown. You don't need to believe in ghosts and demons, but if you're not at least open to the suggestion of such things, you will be essentially lost in the story. I'll admit that the build-up is slow, but it is most fitting for a movie of this caliber. There are things in this flick that will undoubtedly get under your skin. It does it's job by not showing you too much, letting you see just enough to leave you bewildered and unnerved, but not enough to spoil the terror. The best part of seeing this movie was experiencing it on the big screen. I couldn't believe how many people screamed and jumped out of their seats in the theater. I wasn't one of those in that group however, though I was cringing in my seat, and holding my hand over my eyes whenever something happened. It's incredible to think that the guy who wrote and directed this film only had a small budget to work from, $15:000, which became an instant success. Even though the events in this story didn't happen, it's convincing enough to make you think it's all but true. He did a brilliant job with this production and I give him full credit. I enjoyed the film, in spite of the fact that it scared the living daylights out of me and affected my sleep for a week. Please be advised, anyone who scares easily or may be disturbed by such movies, is best to avoid this altogether. Overall," Paranormal Activity" is a great movie and is sure to make your imagination run wild.
