This fifth installment in the Saw franchise blew me away. It was more than what I expected, and yet I was pleasantly surprised with the entire production... well almost. I only noted one story hole, but with most of the Saw movies, what you think might be a bit of a hole, is explained in the next chapter. Also, the story gets nearly a perfect score for its new light that is shed on the characters. It's a build up, and the film uses a lot of flashbacks with new footage to add insight and dramatic interpretation to the story. You almost feel like you should include the original Saw through the new installment as a whole when giving a story rating! That's how it should be. I have to say the acting is amazing here just like in the previous Saws. The direction too is pretty Good. As to be expected, the visuals are always stellar for these movies. Their intent is to evoke horror and shock, to make our skin crawl, and make our stomach churn, while at the same time giving us a thrill, and a morbid fascination for things we ordinarily would shrink from. Out of all of them, Saw V is perhaps the goriest that I've ever seen. I had to look the other way in one scene because I thought I was going to be ill. A word of warning to those who have weak stomachs. Aside from that, this fifth installment did answer questions from the previous ones but it left you wondering what now and what will be the next thing to happen. I guess all will be revealed in Saw VI, but in the meantime we'll just have to sit tight. All in all this was a great film with a huge twist.
