There was nothing particularly great about the movie," Shutter", and as a horror fan I was let down considerably, thinking I was going to be in for a surprisingly good thrill. Also, this was a lousy attempt at an American remake in every way possible. The original Asian version was definitely a lot better. If I had known the movie was going to be such a flop I wouldn't have bothered wasting my time and money on it. The previews for the trailer are very deceiving, and leave you with a false sense that you are going to see a great horror movie. From the first opening scene it is painfully obvious that the two main characters have zero chemistry, as well as an awkwardness felt between them at certain times. The worst part is the acting, and some of the horror scenes are actually laughable. As for the story's climax, there is hardly any suspense at all, and after awhile the plot seems to drop off, leaving you as dazed as a deer in headlights. Also, the visuals are bad, and the film looks cheaply made, and not to mention, has a slow pace. However, if there is one redeeming quality about this picture, I guess it would be the cinematography. There are some very beautiful nature scenes throughout. As someone who knows their horror movies, please heed my warning and stay away from this one."Shutter" is one for the trash can.

This movie was a let down to say the least. The cast was hardly convincing in their roles and the story was terrible. With a poor plot and bad directing, I was glad to actually see the movie end. I don't recommend this one to anyone unless you have an hour and a half to waste and you get to watch it for free.

Boring and unscary. Simple story that seems to go on forever. Worse than The Grudge 2. Pales in comparison to Ringu or The Ring. By the way, who uses 35 mm or Polaroid cameras anymore?

The usual Hollywood drivel - someone already did it and better! The original Thai version was far superior - more suspenseful and creepier all around.

This is a good movie for those who have an interest in paranormal energy or spiritography (electronic spirit communication) I wouldn't recommend anyone dabbling in the paranormal but I would certainly take this movie very seriously.

This movie wasn't too bad, but it could have been better. Instead of the random plot, there should have been more "make you jump" scenes. Go see it if you have some spare time.

This movie sucks, not scary at all and very predictable. Would discourage any one from watching this crap. Do waste your time and money.

Honestly, don't even bother seeing this remake, stick with the original asian movies, they're always better. Hollywood is just being greedy and stealing all their classic horror films... The original Shutter is so much better and I just don't see why they can't show it in theaters with subtitles or something.

Not terrible, however, not great. A little jumpy at times but not worth seeing again.

Just another proof that American cinema is completely out of breath and they find nothing better to do than rehashing foreign hit flicks (in this case from Thailand) Not a bad movie in itself, but still nothing more than a copy... along with The Ring, The Grudge, The Departed... Go see the original!

Why all the negative ratings? Did you simply not get the movie? Or were you a 15 year old kid too busy making out to even try to understand it! Finally a movie that I didn't figure out half way through the movie, the clues were very smartly spread all through it and there were even stuff we understood on our way back in the subway! If you were a fan of the ring and sick of same old horror movies you will definitely enjoy this one!

As far as horror movies go, the predictable blonde actress etc. etc... I was surprised that it was decent. The first ten minutes I felt that I chose the wrong movie but the movie is decent, acting for the most part is acceptable and the general theme was good. Could have been better as it seemed to run on but the ending was twisted in a way that I enjoyed. It didn't end the traditional, escaped victims limping off into the distance type ending. All in all a decent movie worth seeing.

Seeing Shutter was a complete waste of time. The acting was awful, the script was very poorly written and didn't seem natural, nobody in the theatre was paying attention to the movie. Probably one of the worst flicks I've seen at the theatre.

The story is so crazy, it's not worth wasting 90 mins to find out what it all means. Thank God that the acting is okay, otherwise I would rate this a 1 or 2...

Who ever came up with the script need to signed over his check to the creator of 'THE GRUDGE'. Same idea was used, they could at at least change the location of the movie but they couldn't even do that! Do avoid at all cost.

SERIOUS contender for worst movie of 2008. OMG, it's SO BAD. The movie just gets worse and worse as it goes on too! Everything just unravels and makes less and less sense. It's like trying to build a highrise on a foundation of marbles. The closer you get to finishing it, the shakier it gets. I'm a huge j-horror fan too. I thought the Grudge was fantastic and The Ring was decent I guess. But this is just AWFUL. Worse than The Grudge 2 and The Messengers even (I'm totally serious) Also, it's SO depressing to watch! Overcast skies the entire movie and drab interior shots. [...]

Was well worth the money to watch. Storyline was interesting and ending was entertaining. Watch it with an open mind, don't have preconcieved notions like some people here who are trying to compare it to the Ring and Grudge which is just plain dumb, since they are completely different movies. Final word, I enjoyed it and you might too if you give it a chance.

The movie was half decent... good work with the decaying corpses at times, and it would probably scare the average normal person, who did not watch many Japanese horror films. For those of us who have seen the original made in Thailand, then this version is honestly no big deal. I personally prefer the original to this one. I really hate how Americans are taking almost every good Asian movie and making it their own... They're just not as good... not even close.

This movie is really really bad. It has no plot at all. It is just nasty and dirty. Who ever thinks this movie is sooo good must be a sicko themself I don't even give this movie a 1/10 it deserves a -0/10. Don't waste your time and money to go watch it or do not I type don't even bother to rent it either your going to get a headache, I walk out, I couldn't handle it. This movie is even more worse then.

I read a lot of very negative reviews on this film and to be quite honest, it wasn't all that bad. A lot of people compared this movie to the Grudge and The Ring. Well, a lot of Japanese horror films have very similiar themes. Check out the original versions and you'll see how how superior those movies are to the US counterparts. This had a good story and concept, and not as bad an ending as everyone said. Worth a look see.

I wasn't going to go see this movie after reading some of the reviews on here. Now I'm really glad I didn't listen! I should have known better than to take the opinions of a teenager seriously, anyway. Basically, if you like to be surprised repeatedly, and you liked the kind of atmosphere that movies like The Ring and The Grudge created for you (ideal for a dark, chilly cinema), you'll like this as well. Excellent photography and great directing! If you can't be entertained at all by this movie, well, all I can say is I'm glad I don't have your brain.

I thought it was a pretty good movie , I don't know if its because I'm younger and haven't been fully brought into the world of "horror" movies but I went with my friends and we were all pretty scared. Id suggest going to see this movie , over all pretty good , only thing I thought could have been better woulda been the ending.

You basically get random parts from "The Grudge" and "The Ring" put together and trying to be passed off as a movie. No success.

K, the movie wasn't at all good. If you're looking to see a good a horror film, this would definitely be a poor choice. Tbh, much worse than I would have thought. Acting; not too bad, but the plotline was more or less predicting, and not at all innocative or original. So if you ask if this movie's scary? Well, about as scary as Dr. Seus cat in the hat. We actually laughed through most of it. By the way, there's no proper ending, and it seemed like they've tried to extend it but had no idea where they were going with it. And for the rating to be 14A, GET REAL. That is all.
