A well concieved work which examines two men with different ideals on the way they work and move through life. One man directs life and the other man chooses to react. It is a juxtaposition that also gets elaborated on in telling this fascinating story.

Hard to fathom the few negative reviews I've seen here. I'm sure they prefer Hollywood garbage where your mind can stay on idle. This was a beautifully crafted movie with a twisted and fascinating plot and flawless acting. Top 25 list for me.

A comparison of the contrasting settings in India and Denmark give this film a surrealistic feeling. Rolf Lassgard's performance was exceptional. A good one!

My favourite film so far of 2007! I simply fell in love with the honesty of the emotions the performers brought to the screen, particularly Rolf Lassgard as Jörgen. I'd never seen one of Suzanne Bier's films before, but I'll certainly see others.

A thought provoking film that hits you in the gut. Stellar performances that pick up the nuances of complex choices that individuals create for themselves. This film doesn't do your thinking for you. It is one you may want to see again. Visually beautiful as well.

A poignant touching exposé on the complexity of life, relationships and actions taken. The actors are superbly casted and the editing and music make this a must see.

Boring, flat characters. I left after an hour which I never do! Painful film.

Someone here compared this to "the Celebration" (another Danish film) and I can see why : in both films, a big "family secret" is revealed during a big family event, leading to shattering consequences for all. In the case of AFTER THE WEDDING, though, one revelation leads to another and another until the viewers credulity (and patience!) are stretched to their limits!! Sure, it's all well acted and shot but COME ON!!

Well, I wouldn’t go so far as to say that this was the worst film I have seen in a long time... It was lovely and interesting to look at, and the actors were well cast. In fact everyone involved probably did the best that they could with the material they were given – but if, as in this case, the material is dreadful, you have to wonder, why did they bother? For two hours (it seemed longer) I was bombarded with a lot of plot, which became more and more soapy and melodramatic as it went along. The problem with a bad script like this is that by the end the viewer becomes so detached even the silly and unbelievable ending doesn’t provoke much more than a derisive snicker.

This movie was just TOO much. Too much of everything. And the final seen was the most disturbing part. If you know a child since he is a baby... You don't leave him in India and let him make the choice for his future. Remember - he is only 7 or 8 years old. And how many kids at that point in their lives would choose a pair of pair of sneakers (one imagines)over a parent. This is a film where adults behave like children and children like adults. I find it disturbing. It is one of the worst films I have seen for a long time. I admit that visually it is nice. But.. Please... The plot was written by the director of The Bold and the Beautiful as far as I can tell.

A well crafted, well acted, visually stunning film that has all the ingredients of a bollywood potboiler, rags, riches, love, betrayal, exile and return, death and reunion. Sadly the film doesn't manage to rise above being a slightly more sophisticated version of a B grade Bollywood film. It is high in melodrama and verges on being kitsch at times. This is a film for a rainy afternoon or for when there is nothing else to do. It is certainly far from being great cinema!

Not to be missed! Breathtaking performances from all the cast. Definitely one of the finest films I've ever seen. Sophisticated directing and well crafted cinemaphotography combined with all the other elements make this movie a knock-out.

Perfect. It isn't often that you come out of a movie without any criticism, any point or measure you feel could have been improved upon. The story? The acting? The settings? All were irreproachable. Mads is much more of an actor than his unidimensional 007 character "Le Chiffre" would lead you to believe. I would recommend this drama above all others that are in movies today, and without hesitation. A genuine, touching, grasping, emotional story that is perfectly played out in all parts.

This was my first Danish film. I found the premise a little different. It was thought-provoking, a bit mysterious and unfolded in an interesting and surprising manner. I really liked it.

You know about soap operas, the kind where everyone’s story is intertwined and it's a revelation after the other; such is 'After the Wedding'. For me, it's a 'secret' revealed too many, the story had enough drama already. A very good Danish film, although I preferred 'Brothers' (2005) Anyways, it is well played, it's emotional and it's good.

I wanted to see more of Mads Mikkelsen since his bloody eye appeared in 'Casino Royal'. And his character in this movie has a lot more going on. The best aspect of this film is its unusual premise; I don't know of another story like this one... I don't want to ruin it, and do recommend it... Still, without giving anything away, I really didn't expect it to unfold as it did. I also really loved the final scene; not perfect, leaving a character and perhaps the audience hoping for an easier way... Beautiful. That said, there were a couple of scenes which were over-written and felt slightly sentimental / over-emotional, and I'm not usually one to complain of such. (If you want to see the best Danish film to hit our continent, rent 'The Celebration')

I would rate this movie as one of the best I've seen in a long time. It incorporates a winning combination of social commentary, difficult moral choices, and an intriguing mix of love, betrayal and commitment. Excellent acting, realistic dialogue, subtle foreshadowing of what is to come all add up to a movie worth discussing and pondering long after you have seen it.

It is not surprising this movie was nominated for an Academy Award and won several International Film Awards. The casting was magnificent and the story was very compelling. You really identify with the characters and care what happens to them. The music and cinematography is beautiful.
