This movie was such a joy to watch! I felt like a kid again. And I now know how those people felt in Finding Neverland when they watched the premiere of Peter Pan with kids scattered around in the audience. The kids in our audience were so into the movie, often saying out loud "don't eat the apple!!!" This is a true holiday movie. It is light (except for part of the ending, which I really could have done without), it is funny, it is thoughtful, and it is dreamy, all at once! Amy Adams simply shines as the Princess, to the point where I just would not be surprised if she gets an Oscar nomination for her portrayal. What an actress to go from Charlie Wilson's War to this, two totally different performances! Kudos to James Marsden who also does an incredible job of being the fairytale Prince in modern New York. Several chuckles result from his interactions with New York's finest! Patrick Dempsey is very good as the straight thinking no-fun single father to a cute little girl. He also has very funny moments with the Princess!!! All in all, this movie has a nice message about the importance of family, of believing in things that may fall out of the ordinary realm, and of just expressing how we feel. The only slightly down part of this movie is towards the end when Susan Sarandon's wicked stepmom transforms... I'm sure they could have come up with a much better, funnier, and less overly dramatic ending. That's the only down point. But it still deserves a solid 9/10 for families, and even for adults too!!!
9/10
