What can I say? Will Smith is an amazing actor who does a commendable and convincing job as the last man alive on earth in this much hyped doomsday film. The concept here is one that surely will give you food for thought," Can this ever happen to us? " The very idea that a virus would spread like wildfire throughout the land, taking out many, would not have been imagined less than two decades ago. However, a virus that has no cure, and could wipe out a good portion of human civilization, certainly could be a reality in our times. I also thought that Will Smith carried the first hour of the film so perfectly that even though he was trying to hold it together you knew he was at the breaking point. You can really get a sense of the loneliness that Smith is faced with. As for the visuals of this film, they are awesome and the CGI is better than I expected. The main highlight of the movie is the special bond that he shares with his beloved dog. The dog is an outright star and full of understanding and love. Aside from that, there are indeed some scary moments. The fact that you never really get to see a steady, prolonged shot of the "Night Seekers" raises this observation," what we can't see is scarier than what we can see. A lot is left to the imagination, which makes the film that much more intriguing. The ending however, is quite a surprise, but it all makes sense and answers any questions about how this happened. All in all, I Am Legend is an incredibly entertaining movie. Don't miss it, or you'll be sorry.
