A self destructing character study of a good life long lesson to be learned.

This movie was a marvelous surprise. Sure it didn't have the budget of other epic love stories like the Notebook but it never delivers the same passion, alas in a very very different way, on the screen. That is what is so incredible about this movie, it's not just another love story, it's got it's own unique twist and the sad thing is there are probably millions of couples living the same drama in their own lives. It's not hard to find either. Abbie Cornish was a delight. She has this allure of grace, dignity but yet she was beleivable as a prostitute as well as when she was undergoing a nervous breakdown. I loved her on the screen every second. She is surely one up and comming actress. Although Heath Ledger gave an equally good performance, Abbie definitely was the one that surprised me the most. I am sad to give this movie an 8 as it surely is worthy a 9 or even a 10. However, the average screenplay, directing (mostly due to a low budget), brought this movie down a lot in quality which is a very sad thing given the incredible performances and beautifull love story.

A very powerful portrayal of love and addiction! I have not seen Candy per say, but I have heard alot of buzz and accolades surrounding this movie. It is my hopes that this movie will show in theatres throughout all of Canada, so I can see it! It is a must see movie for everyone, especially teens. This movie does not glorify drug use like other movies have, and that's why as Canadians we would like to have the chance to get to see this very realisitic portrayal. Critics reviews say that Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish performances in this movie are amazing!

An excellent film with so much to say and with wonderful performances from Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish, who bring a touch of realism and sympathy in their roles as Dan and Candy, lovers of each other and heroin. There are some very intense and moving scenes in this film, that highlight the devastation that drugs can bring.

Films made from novels often pale by comparison. But Luke Davies' Candy roars to life thanks to an edgy, intelligent adaptation -- and incendiary performances by Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish as a couple in love with each other and heroin. Cornish brings a feral fragility to the title character. Ledger is a powerhouse of physicality -– the actor all but disappears when he slips into the skin of petty criminal Dan. With equal parts ferocity and tenderness, Ledger accomplishes something rare: He makes us ache for the plight of these unsavory losers, while making us forget every other role he’s ever played. Darkly comic moments add irony to the story, which has just the right look, gritty and sensual. Some scenes are unsettling; at a recent film festival, audience members gasped several times. Still, this is not merely a voyeuristic, cautionary tale about junkies. Candy is a courageous and unflinching look at just how high and how low the human heart will reach in pursuit of what it desires.

I was lucky enough to see this at the Toronto International Film Festive and came away greatly affected by the story and performances. There is not a false note from any of the main or supporting actors and was very impressed with Abbie Cornish, Geoffrey Rush and especially Heath Ledger. Ledger's last year Oscar nomination was definitely not a fluke, this guy can act. It is not an easy story, there are some gut-wrenching scenes, but there is also lots of humour. I would highly recommend it..
