A very lazy jarmush filming a long and boring scenario! Avoid at all costs.

A visual poem to skullduggery. I have to elaborate to satisfy the demands of the cinemaclock, so to add more, I would say the movie was like a poem to me, and there were some espionage-type elements to the story. Beautifully filmed.

Another great film directed by the brilliant Jarmusch. I really don't understand why so many people have underrated such a masterpiece?! I know the scenario is quite different than the usual mainstreams, but the cinematography of the film is beautiful. In short, this film definitely worths your money and time if you care about fine-arts and music.

PITY THAT THE TITLE 'MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING' HAD ALREADY BEEN GIVEN TO ANOTHER MOVIE! I mean come on... What's the purpose of making a movie like that?.. I wonder if the reason for having to keep repeating similar scenes is simply because the story itself could have been made in less than an hour, so they stretched it a bit! ; Yeah 'A bit'-the understatement of the year!. The only way that I can describe this movie is that the experience is most probably parallel to that of seeing the world after having consumed some pretty wild hallucinogens or a whole bunch of valume or something like this! ; This is a typical example of wanting to be so different that the end result simply backfires on your whole project! It is achingly slow, excruciatingly boring and the movie doesn't quite go anywhere and quite frankly, generally quite pointless and I found myself looking forward for the end of the movie!. Thank God that I was invited by a friend who had won a double pass for the premier and hence I didn't have to pay for it! ; Still, though, those were two hours of my life that I'll never get back (gosh lucky for me that I havn't kept track of all similarly lost hours, cause I'd be depressed by now)!!! The only impressive thing in the movie is the smart photography and this is the only reason why I'm not giving it a zero! So there, don't say that you haven't been warned! I mean just having a cup of coffee with a friend or even reading a book beets that experience! Need I say more?

It's hard to make a movie with less action, to be more predictable and exagerated slow. Even the trailer let's you believe that it's a professional killer with a big plot when there is NOTHING of that! Only good thing are nice pictures of spain. I understand that not every movie should be entertaining but this is an exaggeration of the exact opposite. The movie actually made me frustrated, upset and impatient. Perfect movie to punish someone or if you lost a bet... or excellent date movie for someone you never want to see again!

The Limits of Control IS a film for everyone. Most, apparently by the average 'rating' of this film don't realize that there are more than one type of film and that they are used to the ones that are designed to fulfill a certain check list popularized by our culture in the form of programmed pace, archetypes, safe imagery and dialogue. To be simple, let us just say there are two: art films and entertainment movies. There are few to no actual 'reviews' here on this webpage, just mindless sulking characteristic of consumer robots. And that is not a slight. That is a simple observation. So if reading this makes you sensitive, it is just a good sign that something can still reach you... if you are getting mad at this review then it is a clear sign that your defense mechanism is an adapted one not of your own development, but rather of one you have bought into, downloaded and installed. This film shows you point blank how distracted our culture is. The main character has a mission, to accomplish it he needs to stay focused. Focus in our culture is boring. Distraction is everywhere. Every character offers a distinct and interesting distraction, yet he never responds. He controls himself. We as an audience want to hear him respond, because we want to know him more, plus we want to be distracted from the near real-time pace of the film as the character waits patiently through each stage of the mission. Some see movies for the sole purpose of distraction, an escape - which it is at times for all of us. THIS is a film - a work of art - that worked on the makers as it was produced and is now presented to work on the observer. If it makes you squirm in your seat or cause you to want something more, it is only alerting you to the fact that you are a programmed dog that salivates for distraction on command. Art and entertainment are different. Art is ruthless while entertainment caters to a clear sense of popular programming while extracting cash from the doe-eyed, leaving only a vacuous space with a trace of a need to be fulfilled by a sequel. Just because this film does not give you the bang you are used to for your buck, doesn't mean you have to trash it. Let it marinate, it is doing exactly what it was intended to do. Don't take your anger out on Jaramusch, have a look at the popular programmers and their agendas. Sure, Jaramusch has an agenda, and I bet he appreciates distractions sometimes too, but ask yourself, do you want to only have distractions? Do you have goals? Do you have a mission? What are The Limits of Control? Jaramusch is betting that we have not asked ourselves this question enough. He is asking us what are the results on our personal lives when others control us through distraction?

Kind of a Meta physical movie. Slow and dreamy pace. I liked it a lot. It also deals with the concept of authority figures who think they are safe, but “the enemy” can attack them in many ways...

Jim Jarmusch does a crappy job in this one. Too self indulgent and lacks any imagination if you ask me. It did leave me with some thoughts about seeing Spain though.

GAWD AWFUL. Pass on this mindless drivel. I don't usually like Hollywood blockbusters but it would have been better than this by a long shot.

I am familiar with Jarmusch but he doesn't live to his own standards in this dud. And certainly didn't live to my expectations. Pass on this one.

Jim Jarmusch has always made strange films but this is his worst so far. No redeeming qualities in it.

Do not waste your precious time and money to see this incredible boring, sleep inducing movie. As there was hardly any conversation going on, I was forced to listen to the snoring of the guy sitting 3 rows behind me. It is THE worst movie I have EVER seen, and believe me... I go to the cinema a lot!

This film is not for everyone. There is very little dialogue, but it is truly a dark, subversive, even nihilistic film on perception and reality. Beautifully shot mostly in Spain and great performances by all involved.

This film has lovely scenery of Spain and that is about it. The story takes what seems like forever to go somewhere, anywhere and goes nowhere interesting.

Bad, bad, bad. It is better than Nitol and warm milk to put you out like a light. Too overdone in the artsy way like burnt toast. Pass on this one... NEXT...

This film is too arsty and fartsy and I fell asleep as did my boyfriend about 30 minutes into it. Bill Murray and John Hurt really just give cameo appearances and that is misleading from the trailers.

I did NOT care for this movie--it was the scenery that was worthwhile--do not spend 12 dollars to see this movie at the cinema.

I am a Jim Jarmusch fan. I have seen all of his films on DVD so I was very excited to finally see his work on the big screen. My only expectations were to get my mind blown away. The film succeeded most of the time BUT somehow I felt THE LIMITS OF CONTROL was too simple for a Jarmusch film. Maybe that's the twist. Maybe Jarmusch knew his fans were expecting something complicated so he went to opposite direction and made a 'simple' film. If you are not familiar with Jim Jarmusch, this film will confuse you and might even bore you. But if you are a fan of Jim Jarmusch, this movie will be intriguing and worth your 13$ bucks, even on a friday night at the movies. Because the real stars in films like these are the directors. It's a director film. Not an actor's film. You go see a Jim Jarmusch film because it's a Jim Jarmusch film. Not because of some actor starring in his film. So in a way it's THE LIMITS OF CONTROL starring Jim Jarmusch.
