How do I describe this movie? Well, for starters, it's the bloodiest hundred or so minutes I've ever spent in a movie theatre (and I've seen Saving Private Ryan and Braveheart) I have never seen so many body parts removed in my life, never seen so many geysers of spurting plasma in a motion picture. It's just over-the-top madness and mayhem. Tarantino is back in a big, BIG way, baby. This is easily his best work to date. It's something like Pulp Fiction crossed with a Japanese anime. It maintains Tarantino's trademark convoluted timelines and unpredictable events (remember when Marvin got his head blown off in the back of the car? Stuff like that.) and odd directing style. This is as close to perfection as a movie gets. It's not so much a movie as it an exercise in lunacy. It's like stepping into the mind of a really screwed-up kid who has been given the ability to turn his violent thoughts into a movie. Wait, that's EXACTLY what happened. And, if you are like me, PO'ed about the fact that they split the movie into 2 volumes, never fear. It was a good move, because you just begin to get desensitized the carnage at around the 90-minute mark. It would have be pointless to watch another 100 minutes right away. Can't wait till February, though.
