It's arguable whether theocracies are inherently worse than monarchies, but in this case, the theocracy is MUCH worse than the old monarchy was. Also, the United States (especially under JFK/Carter) did play a big role, whether intentionally or not in overthrowing the Shah (king) of Iran.
