And the idea of the film being predominantly flashbacks might be a successful, subtle, less direct way of telling the story, if a) they actually were used correctly and b) there was even a story to tell. Another thing: why would any sane woman assent to leaving her child with a man she has known for only 24 hours? If that actually happened, especially in New York City, who knows who this man might actually turn out to be. I am not disagreeing with the values portrayed in this movie, merely the way they are portrayed.
